<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/politics-government\/article214077529.html\">Benjamin <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/politics-government\/article214077529.html\">Dunn<br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8211; S.217 [.\u201d]<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">_______________________________________<br \/>\n_______________________________________<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>Letter signed by Christian Stegmaier received and publicized by Personhood South Carolina ( Gaffney, SC ):<\/p>\n<p><b>Stegmaier, SC Senate District 20 Candidate, Pledges Support for Personhood&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-525\" src=\"http:\/\/christiansforpersonhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/personhood.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"696\" srcset=\"http:\/\/christiansforpersonhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/personhood.jpg 540w, http:\/\/christiansforpersonhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/personhood-116x150.jpg 116w, http:\/\/christiansforpersonhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/personhood-233x300.jpg 233w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>_______________________________________<br \/>\n_______________________________________<br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>From Christians for Personhood:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The above \u201cDear Candidate\u201d letter (July 18, 2018) from Personhood South Carolina contains this sentence:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cThis past legislative cycle\u2019s personhood effort had companion bills (S217, H3530) making significant progress in both the House and Senate.\u201d <\/span>This statement is only half true.\u00a0 It is true the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><u>Senate Bill<\/u><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/billsearch.php?billnumbers=217\">S217<\/a> did see significant progress in the SC Senate in 2017-2018 Session: S217 passed Subcommittee after two public hearings, S217 passed the full Senate Judiciary Committee, S217 was placed on the full SC Senate calendar, and the Judiciary Committee Amendment to S217 was actually approved on the Senate floor.\u00a0 However, the<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <u>House Bill<\/u><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/billsearch.php?billnumbers=3530\">H3530<\/a> on the other hand,\u00a0<u>never even had a public hearing<\/u> in 2017, or in 2018.\u00a0 And the historical record shows public hearings in Subcommittee\u00a0<u>have been held in the past<\/u> for the SC House personhood bill; in 2001, in 2004, in 2005, in 2008 (then-SC Attorney General Henry McMaster also testified at this hearing), and in 2010.\u00a0 The SC House personhood bill passed out of Subcommittee in both 2004 and 2005.\u00a0 In 2005, the personhood bill also passed the full House Judiciary Committee (still unamended), before being amended on the floor of the full SC House of Representatives with a fatal flaw so-called \u201cmorning-after-pill\u201d (chemical abortifacient) rape \u201cexception\u201d <i>[sic] <\/i>amendment, then passed the full SC House of Representatives on Second and Third Readings, and was then sent to the SC Senate where two public hearings were held, no vote taken, and it died.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/christianlifeandliberty.net\/2016-11-12-History-of-Personhood-Legislation-in-South-Carolina-1998-2016.pdf\">History of Personhood Legislation in South Carolina ( 1998 &#8211;
