But the expected leadership already is planning what next year\u2019s legislative session will look like.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Continued&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>After meeting with the GOP caucus in Sumter in November, coming up with an\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>a bill to further restrict abortion <\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">is\u00a0not\u00a0at the top of the priority list,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Massey said.<\/p>\n<p>Massey wouldn\u2019t say if and when they will jump into an abortion debate, but a conversation took place in the all-male Republican caucus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIt was a good spirited conversation as always,\u201d Massey said. \u201cWe had a good conversation about it.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*** <\/span><\/strong>I don\u2019t expect that will be our only caucus conversation about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">***<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Great. Wonderful. So the Republican Super-Majority (34 out of 46 Senate seats; 74% Republican), <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">led by Senator Shane Massey (R-Edgefield) [ who supports &#8220;exceptions&#8221; to a Ban on killing babies ] <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">had &#8220;a good conversation&#8221; about whether to end the mass genocide and bloodshed which continues <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">at South Carolina&#8217;s three child-murder by &#8220;abortion&#8221; centers in Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">and they did not even decide to\u00a0legislate\u00a0to enact their own<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"OBJ_PREFIX_DWT205_com_zimbra_url\" class=\"Object\" role=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sc.gop\/assets\/uploads\/2024\/06\/2024-SCGOP-Platform-Rev-Proof-2-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer nofollow noopener noreferrer\">SC State Republican Party Platform<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">to stop it.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nHouse members have passed more restrictive abortion bans in recent years only for the pushes to stall in the Senate. Now with the 34-seat GOP supermajority in the state Senate, Republican may have more flexibility to push for a ban that starts earlier than the six-week mark of a pregnancy.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAt least, that\u2019s what House members want.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>House Republican leadership has indicated that abortion restrictions need to start with the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of those folks campaign on the fact that they\u2019re pro-life, and some of the ones they beat, they claim we\u2019re not pro-life,\u201d House Majority Leader Davey Hiott said. \u201cSo let\u2019s allow them to send it to us and we\u2019ll take a look at it, because we\u2019ve always been the one that started it, and it won\u2019t sit over here if they send it to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hard-line conservative House Freedom Caucus was more direct that the Senate should be able to pass more restrictions on abortion after the results of the election, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>which included the ouster of three Republican women who stood against the state\u2019s <\/strong><strong>current six-week law.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI think the voters in South Carolina were very clear when it comes to life,\u201d said state Rep. April Cromer, R-Anderson, and Freedom Caucus vice chairwoman. \u201cWe have three senators that lost their race solely based on their stand with the Democrats when it comes to life and I think that should speak to the current Senate. They gained a supermajority and there\u2019s nothing that we can\u2019t do for the people of South Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">[\u00a0Note: In addition to the defeat of the three pro-&#8220;abortion&#8221; female &#8220;Republican&#8221; Senators,\u00a0<strong>four additional Republican seats <\/strong>were picked up in the 2024 Election, to increase the number of &#8220;Republican&#8221; SC Senators\u00a0<strong>from 30 to 34 in the 46-member <\/strong><strong>Senate.<\/strong> On Sept 8, 2022, a bill to ban 97%-98% of surgical and &#8220;abortion&#8221; pill &#8220;abortions&#8221; was defeated when a motion to stop a filibuster fell just two votes short of passing, with six &#8220;Republican&#8221; Senators not voting for cloture<strong>****<\/strong> (one, Senator Rankin (R-Horry) had suddenly taken leave and departed the Senate chamber). <strong>So now, three of those six have been replaced <\/strong><strong>(Gustafson, Senn, Shealy all defeated in\u00a0<span id=\"OBJ_PREFIX_DWT206_com_zimbra_date\" class=\"Object\" role=\"link\">June 2024<\/span>), PLUS there are now four additional Republican Senate seats. <\/strong>The &#8220;Republicans&#8221; in the SC Senate are<\/span>\u00a0<strong>without excuse<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">for not making it a priority,<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>now,<\/strong><\/span> to pass pro-life legislation consistent with the written, published, Right to Life plank of the official<\/span> <span id=\"OBJ_PREFIX_DWT207_com_zimbra_url\" class=\"Object\" role=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sc.gop\/assets\/uploads\/2024\/06\/2024-SCGOP-Platform-Rev-Proof-2-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer nofollow noopener noreferrer\">South Carolina Republican State Party Platform<\/a><\/span>. ]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Continued&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The Freedom Caucus pointed to the S.C. GOP platform in how it set up its priorities, including ending joint and several liability to make insurance rates in competitive, allowing families to direct tax dollars for their children\u2019s education, closing the primaries, stopping diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in South Carolina, reducing the state income tax to 4.5%, and further restricting abortion access in the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Continued&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Both chambers now have Republican supermajorities, after the GOP gained four Senate seats in November. The\u00a0House became a Republican supermajority\u00a0after the 2022 election. Republicans make up more than two-thirds of each chamber, making them veto-proof if GOP members stick together.
